The London Marathon is one of Children with Cancer UK’s biggest fundraising events. In 2019 we were delighted to welcome CITV presenter Sam Homewood to our dedicated team of 1,200 runners.

Sam’s support provided a fantastic opportunity to create a piece of content with the following objectives:

  • Engage Sam, taking him on a meaningful journey with the charity
  • Collaborate with Sam to raise funds and awareness
  • Inspire our 1,200 strong Marathon team

‘When Sam met Sam’ saw us introduce Sam to childhood cancer survivor Sam who told his story and presented Sam with one of his ‘beads of courage’ to run the marathon with. A very special relationship formed between the Sams, motivating Sam H in advance and at the Marathon itself, “When I felt tired, I gave his bead a little tap to remind myself I needed to get to the end to give it back to him.” The film was shared three days before the Marathon, gaining 10,000 views across our social media channels and becoming an inspiration to our runners, boosting their morale and fundraising efforts, “LOVE this and have shared with everyone on my timeline!” “Gosh, I’m emotional. You rock Sam, both of you!”
