What's design got to do with the price of fish?

A factory closes, hundreds of jobs are lost and a big hole is left in the economy of a small port town. It’s a sadly familiar story, but with the application of truly sympathetic design, it provided the impetus needed to regenerate an entire community.

Working closely with the local community, Northumberland Council and the Amble Development Trust, Design Council helped to repurpose Amble’s existing resources and transform the town. Following £8m investment, Amble won a "High Street of the Year" award and in 2019 was heralded by the Sunday Times as one of the "best places to live by the sea".

The film is part of a wider campaign that is targeted at government, the public sector and key influencers. ‘Whatever the question, design has an answer’ uses a series of thought-provoking headlines to challenge the audience to consider what design is and what it can do in ways that they might not have considered before.
