AUTISTICA: Understand More - an autistic perspective
Autistica launched their #UnderstandMore campaign with a short animated film alongside facts about autism. It launched on World Autism Awareness Day with the aim of helping the public understand how autistic people experience the world and how we can support them through research.
The multi-sensory film follows an autistic character through various environments. It shows the challenging side of being autistic in a world full of sounds, lights, smells and unpredictable situations, but also highlights the joy that autistic people can find in special interests and calm environments. It was created with autistic people and family members and narrated by an autistic actor from Holby City, Jules Robertson. The whole film was insight and evidence-led. Initial ideas were crowd-sourced from the autistic community and the character, storyboard, script and soundscape were co-produced with an insight group of autistic people and parents. Because when we work together, we create something better.
The animation was created by The Like Minded.
Autistica is the UK's autism research charity. We work with autistic people and families to understand their world so that every autistic person can live a long, happy, healthy life.
