The Ration Challenge
Concern Worldwide’s Ration Challenge film was created to engage audiences with an issue in a unique and original way. Using a social experiment format, it gave members of the British public a glimpse of what Syrian refugees living in Jordan have to live on.
The film aimed to raise awareness of both the issues facing some refugees as well as the fundraising challenge Concern wanted people to get involved with. The Ration Challenge is an initiative to give members of the public the chance to show solidarity with refugees by eating only refugee rations for a week, sharing their experience, and getting sponsored to do it. The rations provided are exactly the same as those distributed to Syrian refugees in camps in Jordan – just a small amount of rice, beans, chickpeas, lentils, fish, oil and flour.
The film wasn’t designed to provoke guilt. Instead, it highlighted the fact that people care about what Syrian refugees have to face and challenged the audience to carry out a small act of solidarity.
