Lepra is an international charity working to beat leprosy in India, Bangladesh, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. This disease affects the most vulnerable people in the world, causing life-changing disabilities, but there is a cure.

This video showcases our ambassador, Stuart Miles, revisiting the Blue Peter Public Health and Research Centre (BPHRC) in India which was originally opened in 1999. BPHRC is a training and treatment facility for people affected by leprosy. The centre itself offers a unique combination of high quality research combined with clinical practice.

Stuart’s visit was to see the development and progress ofthe centre since its opening 20 years ago, and to find out how we are directly helping those affected by leprosy. During Stuart’s visit he met a young girl, who spoke about her difficult personal experience with leprosy. She highlighted key issues that are present with many affected, such as feeling shunned by those around her. Although leprosy may be viewed as a physical disease; it can have long term damaging effects on people’s mental health.

We are working towards a day when leprosy no longer destroys lives, with your support we can achieve this sooner. We will beat leprosy together!
