One in three people in the world are in danger of sickness and disease because they don’t have a clean and safe toilet. When human waste is not properly disposed of, it contaminates water supplies and spreads deadly diseases. Access to good sanitation is something easily taken for granted, but Domestos and Unicef are working together to raise awareness on this issue and to ensure that everyone has access to good sanitation.

Our partnership supports global efforts to ensure that the UN Sustainable Development Goal 6 is met and that all people have access to clean water and sanitation by 2030. Since 2012, when a specially Unicef marked bottle of Domestos is purchased, 5% of the cost is donated to Unicef’s work to tackle open defecation, empowering customers tackle a vital issue through their purchase.

And every year we have been able to tell customers in seven countries, that when they buy a bottle of Domestos, they aren’t just getting a cleaner toilet for their own home. They’re also supporting a Unicef programme that has so far helped more than 16 million people around the world get clean, safe toilets.

Since our partnership began, Unicef and Domestos have worked together to show Domestos’ customers the human impact of their support. Telling the stories on TV, digital and in the press of the children, families and communities whose lives have been changed thanks to the partnership.

This film that we are submitting for a Corporate Cause Award forms an integral component of our current campaign to raise awareness on this issue and to demonstrate to Domestos’ customers the change they have facilitated. The film documents the impact that our work has had on a school in Rajasthan, India – showcasing to Domestos customers how their support has helped children and teachers.

It amplifies the voices of these pupils and teachers to demonstrate that by tackling the spread of illness, access to a toilet has significantly improved school attendance and ultimately the educational attainment of students. This film has been shared across Unicef and Domestos social media platforms in 2019, including being promoted using paid social on Unicef UK channels.

Unicef and Domestos won’t stop until everyone has a clean, safe toilet and we want as many people as possible to know about the impact of our work.
