Members of search and rescue teams can have images in their minds that they’d rather not have. Sad memories they’d rather forget, of people they couldn’t save. They were already gone by the time that the callout came.
Imagine the scene...a mother stands quietly in the darkness, alongside a river, watching the team search for her son, who never came home after a night out drinking. If only he’d saved money for a taxi home, or stayed close to his friends. If only he’d kept away from the water....if only!
#SAFE_AND_DRY is Kent Search & Rescue’s alcohol-related drowning risk awareness campaign. Our aim is to encourage people enjoying a night-out, to plan how they will get home safely, and not go near water when they’ve been drinking.
“Reaching Tomorrow” aims to give a sense of what it can be like when someone does and doesn’t follow the #SAFE_AND_DRY advice (www.safeanddry.org).
Kent Search and Rescue (KSAR) exists to support Kent Police and other UK teams, in the search for high-risk vulnerable missing people, whose lives may be at risk.
The KSAR team comprises highly trained unpaid volunteers. The team is on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. www.ksar.co.uk
