Passage — Capturing the Spirit of Tintagel Castle
English Heritage is a charity that cares for over 400 historic buildings, monuments and sites - from world-famous prehistoric sites to grand medieval castles, from Roman forts on the edges of the empire to a Cold War bunker. Through these, we bring the story of England to life for over 10 million people each year.
For the cover of our new members' and visitors' handbook, we wanted something remarkable to celebrate Tintagel Castle as it undergoes conservation work and improvements this year.
From a selection of 28 artists, Cornwall-based abstract painter David Mankin was chosen to produce his response to this ancient site, which he has called 'Passage'.
This film, shot and produced in-house on a tight budget by the Content Marketing Team, follows David along the painting's journey and explores his process of 'remembering with paint'.
