Our Jnetics Story


The #GENEius programme is our ongoing campaign to raise awareness about Jewish genetic diseases and the importance of screening to prevent disorders.

The campaign is a pioneering, education and screening initiative that focuses on young Jewish adults. By targeting the parents of the future, it aims to eliminate severe recessive Jewish genetic disorders from the UK Jewish community.

The programme enables individuals to learn about Jewish genetic disorders and get screened to check if they are a healthy ‘carrier’ of the most severe recessive conditions that are more prevalent in the Jewish population – the first step in the prevention of these conditions. With the knowledge of their carrier status, screening participants can then make informed choices to help them avoid the risk of having a child that is affected by a condition and will die before adulthood.

Lauren, through the programme, found out that both she and her husband are Tay Sachs carriers says “it was a real honour, not only to produce this video for Jnetics but to feature in it and have the opportunity to share how this incredible charity has helped my family. Knowledge really is power when it comes to the prevention of Jewish genetic diseases and the mechanism of video really is an invaluable tool to help spread awareness and change lives for the better.”
