Mum, Jenny and Me
Mum, Jenny and Me is the first film that Home-Start Birmingham has decided to use animation for in order to show the impact of its work. Home-Start is a front-line, service delivery charity and protecting the families it supports, is paramount. Highlighting very emotive subject matters through the use of real-life case studies is very sensitive and so the charity took the approach of using personal accounts and statistics in the context of animation.
Told through the eyes of a little boy, the film shows how complex issues such as poor mental health, poverty, domestic abuse and child protection are addressed when his mum accepts the support of a Home-Start volunteer, Jenny. The film shows the journey of a family, (who is struggling to cope), goes on with Home-Start and their volunteer. By the end of the film Jenny has empowered mum to make huge changes to her life, no longer needed, she goes on to support another family who needs her.
The aim is to encourage more people to volunteer for Home-Start in Birmingham. By offering emotional and practical support to a family in their own home, the life chances of children in Birmingham can be changed forever.
