'More Than Just Fashion' Shows Highlights
Breast Reconstruction patients took to the catwalk
Keeping Abreast are a charity who support women through breast reconstruction due to a breast cancer diagnosis or discovery of the breast cancer gene. In October 2018, to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month they held their 7th "More Than Just Fashion" Show.
The unique event featured 24 local women who have all been through breast surgery. Mentally, mastectomy or reconstruction, can be incredibly difficult to deal with for women, who whilst already dealing with a life changing diagnosis, then how to deal with losing a huge part of what makes them feel feminine. The fashion shows give these women the opportunity to look and feel amazing, they have their 'moment to shine', to feel confidence and self-assured after overcoming some tough challenges.
One of the models from the show said "The Fashion Show was the most awe-inspiring thing i have ever taken part in. I am still beaming since taking part in the show with such inspirational, brave, and strong women and i feel more confident about my body and proud of being me again", Lucy, model and patient.
Through a network of volunteers KA run support groups and events across the country.
