Making Room for Nature
With thecompletion of the Mersey Gateway bridge, this short documentary takes a closerlook at how wildlife on the surrounding estuary has been affected by theconstruction of this colossal bridge, and reflects upon our choice to livealongside nature.
The Mersey Gateway bridge project was envisaged as a ‘green’project that will bring major environmental benefits to the local area.Environmental issues have been a key focus since the project was firstdeveloped, which led to the creation of the Mersey Gateway Environmental Trust.
The Trust is an independent Charity set up in 2010 to promotethe conservation, protection, and improvement of the environment across a 1600hectare area of the Upper Mersey Estuary. The Trust is charged withmonitoring the construction impacts and suggesting ways to avoid damage to thelocal environment. It is able to use innovative management practices topromote local biodiversity. The video shows how and why it monitorsthe estuary.
