Life Growing Up
The Children’s HIV Association (CHIVA) are delighted to submit our short film ‘Life Growing Up’, created with young people who have grown up with HIV.
Three actors and a musician perform ‘Life Growing Up’ using spoken word and storytelling. It is written from the real stories and thoughts shared by young people who have grown up living with HIV.
Critical issues experienced as a child or young person growing up with HIV are explored. Experiences such as telling a sexual partner about your HIV, maintaining medication adherence and clinic engagement throughout childhood, and emotional and social issues associated with growing up with HIV.
‘Life Growing Up’ raises awareness about HIV in childhood and adolescence. Giving voice to a group of young people who s’ stories have been largely untold. It aims to raise awareness and improve understanding of HIV among children and young people in particular and the wider public more generally and provide support to other young people also living with HIV. It offers critical insight into the needs of this group of young people for health care professionals and others involved in services for young people.
