Keep a good thing going
"In my head I thought – if she can do it I can do it." Paddy
Paddy and Collette share their story of meeting, and of how Colette’s own experience of homelessness meant she could give Paddy the support he needed to take himself from a life on the streets to becoming a Peer Mentor at Shelter.
We wanted to make a film that touched on the complexity of homelessness, and showed the importance of mutual support, lived experience and friendship in someone’s journey from the isolation of the streets to a home.
Shelter's Peer Mentor programme employs people with lived experience to work locally with anyone that is rough sleeping, homeless or at imminent risk of rough sleeping. The programme supports them to reach their personalised goals and to achieve a greater level of stability and independence.
