A cochlear implant is a surgically implanted electronic device that provides a sense of sound to a person who has a severe or profound hearing loss.
The implant is surgically placed in the inner ear by a specially trained ENT Surgeon. Cochlear implant surgery, including the implant itself, averages between £25,000 and £40,000 in U.K.
The best results are achieved at 1-3 years of age and 90 to 95 percent have hearing and language improvement and these children develop a hearing and speech equal to those of children with normal hearing.
IMRA registered charity (1089354) has done 85 Cochlear Implants since 2012 mainly on children (81) and of these 85 only 4 patients were financially sound to support themselves. Rest 81 were provided free Implants and free surgery as well as Rehabilitation for over 2 years by the charity.
