Overcoming loneliness with Games on the Train
At the root of Games on the Train is the value of connecting people and how having fun can improve well-being. The project uses the train creatively to showcase activities for people over the age of 50 which take place along the route of the Severn Beach trainline - areas such as Sea Mills and Avonmouth on the outskirts of Bristol, both of which are in the top third of deprivation in the country.
Games on the Train is delivered in partnership with Severnside Community Rail Partnership (SCRP), who support Games on the Train by supplying refreshments and covering the travelling costs. SCRP commissioned the video to show other groups and transport providers how imaginatively trains can be used to support social connections and well-being.
LinkAge Network's Community Development Coordinator engaged residents in taking the lead on the project and encouraged people who wouldn’t ordinarily attend activities to attend this one.
Games on the Train has been our surprise, run-away success and has just celebrated its first birthday in September with a traditional tea party.
