Elgin Street Pastors
Elgin Street Pastors are Christian volunteers from 9 different churches.
We go out every Saturday night in teams of 4, from 10pm until 3.30am, in Elgin town centre. People get into all sorts of problematic situations. We are there to listen, care and help anyone, without judgement. A typical example: early in the evening groups of people are out having fun, however, at the end of the night there may be one vulnerable person who has been left on their own, lost, no friends around, no money, drunk, lost their mobile and does not know what to do. We stay with them until we know they are safe.
We are fundraising so we can continue to be out every Saturday night. Funds will be used for ongoing supplies, uniforms and training.
We hand out lollipops which are great to prevent arguments, change atmospheres and they also provide a sugar boost.
We give out flip flops to ladies who may fall when trying to walk in high heels. These give welcome relief and prevent injury.
We sweep up broken glass and remove glass bottles from the street.
The presence of the Street Pastors has a reassuring and calming effect.
