Richard has worked in the Charity sector for more than 20 years, prior to this he was a Retail Director following 20 years on the high street with Boots the Chemist, Burtons and the Early Learning Centre.
He joined Imperial Cancer Research Fund in 1998 where he was instrumental in the merger with Cancer Research Campaign that formed Cancer Research UK. He worked there for 18 years progressing to the board in 2004 when he became the Executive Director of Fundraising, Marketing and Communications. In that time, he successfully rebranded the Organisation and lifted their annual revenues from £200m pa to over £500m.
He was responsible for over 2000 staff and some 20,000 volunteers which helped make CRUK the largest and most successful Fundraising Charity in the UK. He moved to Macmillan Cancer Support in 2015 where he held a similar position taking responsibility for their fundraising, brand activity and marketing of cancer services. In 2018 he became an independent consultant specialising in Executive Coaching. He is also a Trustee for the Tony Elischer Foundation and advisor to Guy’s and St Thomas’s Charity.
Richard lives in Wiltshire with his wife and they have 4 children.
